Almost everyone looking to promote their website wonders which directories to submit their site to. What are the best directories? To be quite honest a lot of directories are junk and not worth wasting your time with.
When trying to find good quality directories you should look at the quality of sites already listed in it and in the specific category your website falls into. If there are a lot spammy looking websites listed in the directory or in your site’s specific category I would stay away from it.
However if the directory lists only quality sites, it is well organized, your specific category is indexed by the major search engines then it might be worth submitting your site to.
Most directories charge a fee to review your site for inclusion. Usually it is either an annual fee or a one-time fee for a lifetime listing. There are very few free directories available that are worth your time. Really the only free directory we recommend is Dmoz, but good luck getting listed. It can take forever to get listed in Dmoz anymore unless you have connections with the editor in your category or become an editor yourself.
